Note: Attend a class when they are offered to ensure your success. At that time you will learn your password. Read the manual and look at the tutorials on the left navigation bar.
Clicking on the big name at the top takes you back to your home page.
Clicking on the MC image in the top left-hand corner takes you to MC home page.
Story (Page) Basics
First, login!
To enter your full name as the big name at the top: Go to Prefs>Appearance>Site Name
To add a title on the top of a your home page (story) or any story: Go to the page>Edit this page>Change/enter the title for that page>Click on "Post Changes".
To change your home page: Go to the home page>Edit this page>Make your changes>Post Changes.
To add a new page: Go to Stories>Create a New Story >Add title and text>Post New Story.
To change a page (story): Go to the page>Edit this page>Make your changes>Post Changes.
Picture
To add a picture/image: Go to Pictures>Create a New Picture>Title: name the picture>Browse to choose a file on a drive>Post new picture.
The actual picture file name must be no longer than 31 characters with no special characters or spaces. Include the extension of .jpg or .gif.
To delete a picture or story (page): Go to Shortcuts>Check the box in front of a shortcut>Click on "Delete".
Gem (Document)
To add a document: Go to Gems>Click on "Create a New Gem">Type in a short title. Browse to choose a file>Post new gem.
Be patient. Quickly posting the same gem twice can be problematic.
The actual gem file name must be no more than 31 characters with no special characters or spaces. Include the extension such as .doc, .pdf, .xls.
To delete a gem (document):Go to Gems>Check the box in front of a Gem>Click on "Delete".
Link
To add an internal link to a gem or story (page): Put quotes around the exact title you gave to the story or gem. It will become a link after you post the changes. Use the same title you typed in when you created the gem or story. Titles are "case-sensitive". To recheck your title, you can go to shortcuts or stories or gems to see them listed.
To add an internal link to a story or gem to the navigation column of a multi-page site:
First create the new story.
Then, make a relative path:/xxx/
Edit the Nav.bar: Add link: /yourlastname/xxx/
Multi-Page Theme
To use the multi-page theme which has a navigation column on the left side:
First, to be safe: copy your home page source window information by going to Edit this Page/Edit Story. Go to Prefs>Themes>Choose Multipage>Apply Theme. Your home page should look the same. However, if need be, you can paste in your already developed home page information to the new home page.
Again, To add an internal link to a story or gem to the navigation column of a multi-page site:
First create the new story.
Then, make a relative path:/xxx/
Then, go to Prefs>Advanced>Check the box "Show Edit button next to navigation links?" Edit the Nav.bar: Add link: /yourlastname/xxx/
Basic FormattingNote: Formatting for WYSIWYG Mode (available in PC Internet Explorer only) differs from Formatting for Source Mode (PC and Mac: Internet Explorer and Netscape) More on this will appear here later.
<br> produces a line break.
--- or <hr> produces a horizontal rule.
*** produces a bold paragraph.
Hitting enter or return twice produces a blank line and a new paragraph.
An email address will automatically be an email link: your_name@wvmccd.cc.ca.us
A full URL http://www.missioncollege.org will automatically be a link.
<strong>word</strong> results in a bold word.
<i>word</i> word results in an italicized word.
To remove a calendar: Go to Prefs>Appearance (on left side)>Scroll down to home page>Do you want a calendar on your home page?>No
